Comala,
a Magic Town to follow
Mexico?s Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) is looking to strengthen
the presence of the country?s 32 Magic Towns, according to the General Director
of the Regional Programs of Sectur, Pedro Delgado.
In a press conference, where he was accompanied by the Minister
of Tourism of the state of Colima, Jose Fernando Moran, Delgado said that they
will tour the country to know the necessities and advances of each Magic Town.
After recognizing that Comala is an example of the success of
the Magic Towns, he said that even though there are other tourism attractions,
the federal public policy is orientated also to the support and promotion of
the cultural, gastronomical and historical richness of those towns categorized
as magical.
As an example he mentioned Comala (Magic Town of Colima), which,
beginning in 2002 with an investment of almost $1.5 million dollars (20 million
pesos), "has been rescued as the White Town of America, thanks to the
initiative of the authorities, the involvement of the society and the economic
support of the three levels of government."
As part of the push that looks to be given to this sector, next
year Comala could host the National Meeting of Magic Towns, in which other
towns around the country could be named Magic Towns.
