It is safe to vacation in Mexico: PAHO
The Pan American Health Organization
(PAHO) stated trips to touristic destinations in Mexico are safe as long as the
travelers take the health measures recommended by the World Health Organization
(PAHO).
"If I would have to travel to
Cancun (Mexico), I would," said the principal technical adviser of PAHO on
immunizations, Jon K. Andrus, when asked if the PAHO recommend specific
measures to reduce the impact on tourism in Mexico.
Andrus noted that the preventive
measures recommended by WHO and PAHO as washing hands and maintaining hygiene
are certainly enough to travel to tourist destinations.
Andrus endorsed the viewpoint of PAHO
and WHO that "the Mexican response has been excellent" against the
outbreak of human influenza.
