Merida & New Orleans, Sister Cities

Ray Nagin, New Orleans Mayor, and Cesar Bojorquez Zapata, Merida?s Mayor, signed a treaty to make the relation between these two cities official and strengthen work and common activities as well as to promote industrial initiatives.

To support these initiatives, work is being started on reinforcing each city in local fairs, exhibits, conferences and other opportunities to create networks in both cities.

"We will encourage the cooperation of our cities thru our respective governments as well as public  and private associations as well as economic development with the help of our respective, Chamber of Commerce and other associations", Bojorquez assured.

Ragin pointed out the importance of this act such as both cities have strategic locations because of  the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico.
