Night
visits to Tulum
The archeological zone of Tulum is being prepared for the new
night visits with special illumination and audioguides in different languages.
The purpose of this new Project is to make the zones? history more attractive
to visitors by broadening the sites? schedule in order to provide better
service to the visitors that come to Tulum.
According to statistics from the Anthropology and History
National Institute (INAH), Tulum is the second most visited archeological zone
in the country, the first in international visitors and the one that receives
the most visitors in the state of Quintana Roo. Upon this demand, INAH studied
proposals to guarantee the conservation of the monuments while making the visit
more attractive and giving out more historical information and providing a
better service, overall.
Responsible INAH authorities from the state explained that
before starting these visits, an audiovisual presentation will be made
available for visitors where they will be introduced to general knowledge of
the site. This will also serve the purpose of generating more interest in
spectators in the history and prehispanic past, additional to the nocturnal
illumination audioguides will be provided with enough information about Tulum?s
history and the monument?s characteristics.
These night visits will help even out the tourist flow that
Tulum receives during the day, as it is a very small site and has an enormous
visitor pressure. During high season, assistance has registered over 8 thousand
people and with this new schedule the possibility of attendance during the day
will be more diverse, which is forsees a very positive outcome for Tulum?s
conservation.
Inicially the visit will be organized in groups of 40 people.
The night tour will take approximately 45 minutes and the schedule will vary
according to season of the year
