Tomb
discovered in the archaeological site of Bonampak
While completing the restoration work and analysis of the
pictograms of the building of Structure 1 of the Bonampak archaeological site,
a pre-Columbian tomb was found. The discovery was made when specialists were
completing restoration work on paintings in one of the murals at the site. No
doubt this is the most important discovery in the last 13 years in this
archaeological site, it is a tomb discovered at the bottom of the Temple of the
Murals-also called structure 1 -, of the archaeological site. Unofficial
sources from the National Institute of Anthropology and History
Unofficial sources belonging to the National Institute of
Anthropology and History in Chiapas (INAH) have reported that it is unclear yet
whether only human remains where found or if some stones, amulets or other
materials outside of the pre-Columbian culture as well as its antiquity.
The director of the INAH Center in Chiapas, Emiliano Gallaga,
agreed on the importance of the finding, but said he will still have an
analysis done before officially informing the press any details.
