Winter sports in Mexico City´s Zocalo

 

For the second straight year and as part of the December festivities, the Government of Mexico City put into operation the world´s largest ice skating rink in the Zocalo, so that kids and the young people of the country?s capital and those who visit this city, can enjoy and practice ice skating for free every day, from November 29th through January 10th, from 9a.m. to 8p.m.

 

Marcelo Ebrard, Mayor of Mexico City, inaugurated this rink in which each person who attends will receive 55 minutes to skate in the platform, along with 1,999 others at the same time, because it has a capacity for 2,000 people. Also, in this space one will be able to see exhibitions and competitions as part of the entertainment for the rest of the visitors.

 

On this occasion, a snow ramp measuring 19.68 ft high by 39.37 ft wide and 127.95 ft long was installed; also on the side is an area of natural snow measuring 4,305.56 square feet, where visitors will be able to enjoy without having to ice skate.

 

The city´s authorities recommend visitors to wear adequate clothing due to the low temperatures of the play areas, as well as not to take large bags, or sharp objects.
